Reflection of overall year and ICT Module

After completing this blog I have reflected on many of my practices within school as a practitioner and in college as a student. Completing the ICT module has made me more aware of existing skills I learnt during my A level years and also helped me expand previous knowledge, in addition to learning completely new concepts, including new softwares. Overall, throughout my first college year I feel I have become a much more active learner, I have learnt to reflect and analyse my own practice. This has helped me to improve in a number of areas within college and school.

E-Safety stop motion animation

Just completed our group's stop motion animation on E-Safety and submitted. We focused on the abuse on social networking sites, mainly focusing on Facebook. We decided to focus on Facebook as it is widely used from primary school aged children to full grown adults. We aimed it at teenagers in particular. This is because we want teenagers to report any cyber bullying or abuse immediately. I enjoyed this part of the portfolio as it was fun but also relatable to our age group.

Observation feedback reflection

As part of the 'Developing the Classroom Team' module I needed to be observed by my module tutor in my educational setting. I was observed working alongside the teacher, supporting different groups of children in a Literacy  lesson and observed working in after school club. My tutor mentioned in my feedback that I was obviously respected by the children and I am a well organised practitioner, especially when working in the after school club. However, there were a couple of areas for development which I agreed could be possible targets for the future. Firstly, to continue to develop strategies for reading and writing extensions, and praising behaviour in addition to work. After reflecting on the observation, I feel more confident in my own individual practice.

Publisher document, marketing Sundown Adventureland

I decided to produce my marketing material based on Sundown Adventureland park. I chose Sundown as I have visited it a number of times as a child, and also visited as an adult on annual school trips. I really enjoyed the task as I was able to use skills I had learned previously and show my creative side. I chose to use a bright colour scheme which included the colours: blue; red; and orange, as I felt this would appeal to my target audience. I have included pictures of my completed marketing leaflet.

Research into learning theories

After looking at the assignment title and guidance given to me last week in my tutorial, I decided to do some prior reading and research. I started by researching links between learning theories and the use of ICT. After searching the web I found this useful Constructivist video on Youtube.

I found this video useful for clarifying some questions I had about the links between the two. After researching, I have decided to focus my assignment on the constructivist learning theory and Vvgotsky's Zone of Proximal Development.

Coding activity!

After reflecting on last weeks coding activity, I have realised coding is not as hard as it sounds. With some logic and a lot of patience, coding can be done. I really enjoyed the Angry Bird/Ice Age themed activity. It is definitely something I would like to try in a lesson with the children.
